OBD Outreach & Communication Resources

• Get on Board! Give Your Vehicle a Clean Bill of Health.  US EPA outreach materials designed to help educate repair technicians, motorists, media contacts, and other key stakeholders about on-board diagnostics (OBD) and its relationship to car care and emissions checks. Each document is provided as a Web-optimized or Print-optimized Adobe Acrobat Portable Document File (PDF) Version 5.0 that you can reproduce or upload to your Web site.  For assistance accessing these files, or to find out how to create a version of a document customized for your state's inspection and maintenance program, please contact the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency at obd@epa.gov.

• US EPA "See the Light, Clean the Air" Video Public Service Announcement - QuickTime Format (30 Second Version) or QuickTime (15 Second Version)

• The National OBD Communications Tool Kit was released at the OBD2K Conference hosted by the Center in May, 2000.  This tool kit provides sample public outreach materials and radio announcements that can be used by I/M administrators and automotive industry representatives to help the public understand its responsibilities related to OBD.

• The On-Board Diagnostics Outreach and Communications Plan

  prepared by ERG and released by US EPA in September 2001 provides a comprehensive plan to create national awareness of OBD as an emissions control strategy.  The strategy was developed based on a thorough analysis of existing OBD outreach materials and discussions with vehicle Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) program managers who have successfully implemented OBD programs.
